EXPLORE AN ART ENCLAVE (EXPLORE/EXPERIENCE)

Set in a former military barracks dating back to 1936 and surrounded by lush tropical greenery, Gillman Barracks is a contemporary arts cluster in Singapore. It is home to leading international and homegrown art galleries such as Chan + Hori Contemporary (chanhori.com), FOST Gallery (fostgallery.com), Ota Fine Arts (otafinearts.com/sg) and more. Visitors can expect to see international art, local art, Southeast Asian art, and may even meet local artists at the art residences. Parents with young children can visit Playeum’s Children’s Centre for Creativity (playeum.com), Singapore’s first dedicated creative space for children aged one to 12. The venue offers hands-on displays to encourage children to interact with art and creative workshops designed to teach art expression.

Visitors can end their visit with a break at Creamier (creamier.com.sg) located opposite Block 6 of Gilman Barracks, to enjoy homemade ice-cream, waffles and coffee. Creamier is distinctly known for their well-loved seasonal flavours such as Sea Salt Gula Melaka (palm sugar), Roasted Pistachio and Earl Grey Lavender.

GET HANDS ON WITH ART
